Cosori Air Fryer
Best Overall:
Ninja Air Fryer Max XL
Best Value:
Chefman TurboFry
The Cosori’s 3.7-quart square basket offers a lot of cooking space, especially compared to its round competitors. It’s removable and lightweight, with many vents for optimal air circulation. The control panel is loaded with presets that are programmed with recommended cooking temperatures and times, including a preheat option, which is not common on air fryers. The Cosori Air Fryer can also be used on a manual setting if none of the presets are the perfect fit.

The Cosori scored high for ease of use, and over 800 five-star reviewers on Amazon agree. It also made good fresh fries and wings. Frozen fries required almost 10 minutes less than the manufacturer’s instructions, so keep an eye on the goodies you’re cooking. Steam came out of the air fryer during cooking, which caused condensation to develop on the drawer – this steam did not seem to affect results.
The 5.5-quart Ninja Air Fryer Max XL was the top performer in our traditional, basket-style air fryer test. It scored the highest marks across the board for ease of use, thanks to its easy-to-use and -read buttons and clear owner’s manual. During our tests, the air fryer basket slid in and out easily, which made handling a breeze. We’re fans of the basket’s slick, ceramic interior and removable tray, which makes it nonstick. The tray also fits snugly and securely on the bottom of the basket so you don’t have to worry about it falling out when you turn the food out onto a plate. Both are dishwasher safe and easy to clean, even if you choose to hand wash.

In addition to being easy to use, The Ninja Air Fryer Max XL scored the highest in performance. It produced crispy and even frozen fries, homemade fries, and chicken wings that were moist on the inside. The model we tested comes with a broiling rack for even quicker and juicier results and melty cheese. It also features several cook settings, including max crisp and air broil, which reach 450°F, and dehydrate, which reaches a low of 105°F. The different settings are programmed with unique maximum and minimum temperatures, so you can intuitively achieve different cooking results. Another unique feature is the timer, which counts down to the second.
The 3.7-quart Chefman TurboFry produced crispy and even results. It was also easy to use with a lightweight air fryer basket. One thing to keep in mind is its vented basket, which promotes air circulation, also allows for dripping if you don’t empty the grease buildup between rounds. The removable tray has many vents that benefit from cleaning with a brush. A digital version is available, which we’ve tested in the past and allows for more precise temperature and time selection, but if you’re not one to program specific times, the TurboFry is a great value.

Chicken Thighs
Pork Chops
Brussels Sprouts
Chicken thighs with juicy meat and a crispy skin, you will love this chicken that is ready for the table in less than 30 minutes!

4 skin-on, boneless chicken thighs
2 teaspoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
¾ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon ground black pepper

Step 1
Preheat an air fryer to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).

Step 2
Pat chicken thighs dry with a paper towel and brush the skin-side of each piece with olive oil. Place chicken thighs, skin-side down, in a single layer on a plate.

Step 3
Combine smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a bowl and sprinkle half the seasoning mixture evenly over the 4 chicken thighs. Turn thighs over and evenly sprinkle remaining seasoning mixture on top. Place chicken thighs in the air fryer basket in a single layer, skin-side up.

Step 4
Fry in the preheated air fryer until chicken is brown and juices run clear, about 18 minutes. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read at least 165 degrees F (74 degrees C).
Pork chops slightly pink to ensure juiciness, but feel free to add an extra minute on each side for well done. Try different varieties of ranch mix (like spicy or bacon) to change up the flavor.

4 boneless, center-cut pork chops, 1-inch thick
cooking spray
2 teaspoons dry ranch salad dressing mix (such as Hidden Valley Ranch®)
aluminum foil

Step 1
Place pork chops on a plate and lightly spray both sides with cooking spray. Sprinkle both sides with ranch seasoning mix and let sit at room temperature for 10 minutes.

Step 2
Spray the basket of an air fryer with cooking spray and preheat the air fryer to 390 degrees F (200 degrees C).

Step 3
Place chops in the preheated air fryer, working in batches if necessary, to ensure fryer is not overcrowded.

Step 4
Cook for 5 minutes. Flip chops and cook 5 minutes more. Let rest on a foil-covered plate for 5 minutes before serving.

If you need to air fry in batches, keep cooked chops warm in an oven on the lowest setting while air frying remaining chops. For thicker chops, add an extra minute to the cook time. For thinner chops, cook 1 minute less.
Sweet and tart balsamic vinegar pairs well with the bitterness of Brussels sprouts; the bacon adds a smokey flavor. After 10 minutes, there's still some bite to the sprouts; add a few more minutes for a softer texture, if desired.

1 teaspoon avocado oil
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon ground black pepper
10 ounces Brussels sprouts, trimmed and halved lengthwise
1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
2 teaspoons crumbled cooked bacon (Optional)

Step 1
Preheat an air fryer to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

Step 2
Combine oil, salt, and pepper in a bowl and mix well. Add Brussels sprouts and turn to coat.

Step 3
Air fry for 5 minutes, shake the sprouts, and cook for an additional 5 minutes.

Step 4
Transfer sprouts to a serving dish and sprinkle with balsamic vinegar; turn to coat. Sprinkle with bacon.

What is the benefit of preheating?

Preheating visibly improves food texture and takes 2 to 5 minutes! That certainly beats the time-consuming preheat-ing of traditional ovens.

VERY simple to clean air fryer.

Why is cooking with an Air Fryer healthier than other cooking methods?

Besides tasting better, air fryers do not need any oil or very little. You can eat cleaner meals without bad ingredients only needed to cook the food, such as butter or oil.

How does an Air Fryer Work?

  • After inserting your ingredients into the air fryer basket, set your temperature to the appropriate temperature.
  • The hot-air then induces a rapid flow around the food in the basket, which allows the air fryer to produce a cooked inside and crunchy outer layer to your food.
  • Some air fryers are constructed with integrated air filters that prevent odors from roaming around your home. You no longer have to smell like what you are frying!
